The collection consists of minutes of faculty meetings and other materials recording the growth of the University of Oregon Medical School. The collection includes the petition to the Board of Regents at the University of Oregon to establish a medical school in Portland and correspondence between the dean's office and various departments, members of the faculty, students, and outside agencies. The records document the development of higher educational standards, new programs and departments, research, land acquisition, and building projects.

The University of Oregon Medical School was established in Portland, Oregon, on June 16, 1887, to provide medical education and patient care services. In 1909 the Willamette University Medical Department was absorbed by the University of Oregon Medical School, which then became the only medical school north of San Francisco and west of Denver.
